Hawaii Unemployment Benefit and Stimulus
#1
2020 - Hawaii maximum weekly unemployment maximum is $648 per week.
The stimulus bill pays an additional $600 per week, so if you qualified for the maximum under state benefits, you would be getting $1248 per week. Even folks who would not receive the maximum state benefit would end up making more than what they normally earned.

It is entirely possible that quite a few folks will actually make more money on unemployment, than if they had been able to continue working. This completely removes any incentive to go back to work before the 39 weeks of extended benefits would run out.

edit to add example:
One making $10 per hour and 40hr weeks, qualifies for $246 a week from the state. The Feds are kicking in an extra $600 per week, giving the person $846 per week, which is $446 EXTRA per week, for up to 39 weeks. Why in the world would that person want to go back to work before the 39 weeks was up? This is why the Republicans are saying this is a massive drafting error in the bill.

Yeah, think about grocery workers, they can make double the money to stay at home and not risk their family's lives. Same with the hospital admissions staff not allowed to wear masks.

Consumer spending makes up about 70% of the USA's GDP. By funneling printed dollars to the proletariat the hope is that the economy doesn't die in the short term. "We" will have to worry about the debt on "the other side" of this mess.
