Newbie (sort of)- Quarantine Thoughts?
#1
I've spent many years enjoying the great info on Punaweb and I was thrilled the forum demise was NOT imminent although these past months I've felt mine might be; It's finally time to make my move.
I'd originally planned to arrive tomorrow on island to scout long term lodging but I've decided to chance "Oct 15".
That said, it's much less expensive to fly Oct 13 or 14. I have no issue quarantining for a few days taking a test 72 hours prior to departure (or prior to Oct 15 if that's a better bet) and uploading the negative test results on the Safe Travels site Oct 15 but I need to know this is acceptable. I can't find the information anywhere and phone calls are not answered.

Does anyone have a definitive answer? I don't want to make a mistake. Thank you!!

Welch, You will need to do the full 14-day quarantine if you arrive prior to Oct 15 (in the current iteration of the Rule)
scroll down the FAQʻs for this:
"What if I get tested and arrive prior to Oct. 15, do I still need to quarantine?

Yes. If you arrive prior to Oct. 15, you will still need to complete the full 14-day quarantine. The pre-travel testing program starts on Oct. 15. Any travelers who arrive before then will need to quarantine."

OH, another thing, at this point there is no definitive on the INTER-ISLAND quarantine being lifted (currently slated for Sept. 30, but it is up the each county.... & Hawaii County - & others- may prolong ....so.... make sure you land on the island you want to stay on!)

I somehow missed this! It's not my place to question the reasoning and I want to do this correctly. Plenty of time to push the envelope later ;-)
Thanks so much, Carey.

Welcome to PW, Welch, and thank you for being so responsible!

Won't it be a little silly if the pre-travel testing prgram only applies to visitors from elsewhere and not inter-island travelers?

It will be worse when the pre-travel testing applies to interisland travel: the tests will cost more than the airfare -- assuming the tests are even available.

Don't worry, the mayors will each come up with different requirements.

Wait a year, things will be different.
