Transfer station closures / schedules
#11
Hawaii has one of the thickest good old boy systems around and I've lived in the South and no I don't mean Ka Lae.

Went to the Keaau station today. Very long line that started at the gate. At least thirty cars in front of me.
Took twenty minutes to get through the line. Had to stop when they were doing the compacting. The people directing seemed nice though.
Woman feeding cats and washing cat food dishes at the spigots. Gross.

Just curious if anyone can verify this.

"OK, I get that the county allegedly has personnel issues where COVID-19 is right now, but to close the Pahoa Transfer Station is completely ridiculous, especially when the county stations two — yes, two — employees at the gate to prevent either entry to or dumping of trash at the facility!"

Pahoa and Keaau transfer stations will be back in full operation on Mon. They hired a private vendor to take the trash over to the Kona side.

Well, DUH.   I knew closing the transfer stations wasn't going to work.  I saw dozens of bags of garbage at the gates of both Pahoa and Kea'au.  And that was on Sunday, after they had been open the day before.  We have to have them open.  Thank you, Kalianna.

That's not counting all the bags thrown in some random bush. This happens every single time they mess with transfer station access. When will the County learn?

I have to wonder if the contracted trucking will end up being cheaper than county drivers, trucks, and maintenance, as was the case with Hele-On.

Excellent.  I hadn't been aware that the closures were due to staffing problems, about the only valid reason for this.

Went to the Keaau one yesterday, short line just like the “old days”.
