I was going to buy a new refrigerator in Home Depot here in CA,but the sales person told me that it's better to buy in Hawaii because the warranty might not be valid in Hawaii.
True or false?
I also have 3-year warranty on some electronics.
Anyone had to deal with mainland warranty in Hawaii ? Home Depot appliances in particular?
I'd appreciate your input.

We bought a fridge at home depot. It has a year warranty on it. The water dispenser leaked so we called an authorized dealer to fix it and everyone of them said that they wouldn't come out and that they were too busy or it wasn't worth it for them. They didn't care at all. I even reported one of them because they were so rude. So even if you have a warranty doesn't mean they will fix it

Oh just so you know most of the places here (home depot,sears) do not stock major appliances. They order them from Oahu and it takes 3 weeks to get one. So if you want one right away it might be a good idea to order online or bring one with you.

Find the appliance you want, go to the manufactures website, and check their actual written warranty. Look for any exclusions or limitations related to Hawaii. If it's not understandable, there usually is a warranty information number you can call. Ask them specifically if this make and model, purchased in X state, is covered in Hawaii if you relocate and still within warranty. They will give you the definitive answer.
All major sellers who offer extended warranty plans have a warranty information contact center. Do the same with them for their extended service plan. Make sure you find out if this is their warranty backed by them, or if they are just selling you a contract service plan from some other company. Regardless, find out who is the backer of the plan financially and check them with consumer protection agencies.
Some manufactures will not cover product is Hawaii and do not offer them for sale with a warranty. Some retailers will sell that product but with their own warranty not the manufactures. Others, unfortunately, say nothing and when the time comes to get service, you find yourself with nothing. The key is to speak with the manufacture. By the way, many manufactures offer their own extended service plans at competitive prices.

I only have experience with the Sears warranty here and they were easy to work with. It took a while to order/get the parts but they fixed my fridge.

At one point, looking for a washer, neither Sears or HD had it in stock - both had to order. Bought from Sears, but it was more than 3 weeks. When we finally bought all our appliances, went with Sears (sale) and have the time to wait. Contrary to my usual practice, also got the extended warranties. Have had 2 service calls, fridge and drier. So far happy with our choices.

All of my appliances are from sears with extended warranties. The couple things I have bought without the warranties seemed to die right after the 12 month warranty, right at thirteen months. You could do what I just did and call into sears here in Hilo and order the item you want, pay for it over the phone and it will be here in about two weeks. I shopped online until I found the model I wanted, which was a new french door style, but then I talked with a very intelligent sears salesman who has been with them forever, went over my concerns and problems with previous fridge, and ended up I ordered a titanium exterior refrigerator to replace my rotted dieing white one that I bought about seven years ago, hoping to forgo the rusting and rotting that is prevalent here. First time I have ever had to replace a fridge that was not at least fifteen years old, due to the humidity here. And the stupid thing is always freezing up. Sears offers a 90 day trade if you don't like the item you end up with, so if this one is not what I want and ends up freezing up, which I will know within a month, I will try a different one. Just my two cents worth, but gives you an idea what you will be facing.
