Getting a building permit

I agree with kalakoa. If they told you it would take three months it'll definitely take longer than that... Whats the rush?

If you are so certain about what you want to do why not get in and clear the lot, put in driveway, plant/landscape...the things you can do anyways while you are waiting for county approval.

Also, hate to repeat this but you'll hear it again. Slow down, calm down, you're on an island in the middle of the pacific now things happen slower here and it will affect virtually every aspect of life not just building plan approval.

Its cool you can plant some local foods like maia, kalo, olena, and ulu. They will all grow well in orchidland. Go to the beach you live in hawaii!

Soon your plans will be approved and you will have a thousand other issues : )

Go to the beach is the best advice. Plant food is great too. What else is there? Like the sign on Opihikao says, "Try go slow, faka." I love that sign, Bill put it up because his many grankids play there. If you go slow through life you enjoy it more and make fewer mistakes.

This last week I got two electrical permits turned around in 5 days! I don't know what happened. A couple of months ago they were fast as well, then went back to the 4 to 6 week time frame. There may be additional counter help now--last time I was in I saw a person I did not know working there. A lot of the delay used to be 10 days to get entered "into the system" and 10 days to get it issued once it was marked "recommend approval."

I was told 4-6 months to get all permits from start to finish. Also, a little birdie told me I could give Auntie a couple bucks (while not on the clock of course) that our plans might get put on the top of the stack... I like the idea of planting food and going beach better!

They have to do this once in a while -- now you're "that guy who got the permits really fast", so nobody can say that "permits always take months".

Thanks for all the responses! I think. Looks like we will try our best to keep on top of things. We are already doing what we can with the property without building anything but thanks for the advice.

As for taking it slow, we lived in Belize for 4 years. You want SLOW, that's slow. lol
