Driveway permit anyone? Grading, grubbing permit?

That is astonishing, John! I never would have guessed Leilani to be a County road since it is the main road in Leilani Estates. It is a nice road, though. Wonder how many more of the sub-division roads are actually County roads? Perhaps the County wants to have access through Leilani so they are maintaining the road to keep the access open.

Wasn't the County trying to do something for an alternate road access through Ainaloa and across the back of Hawaiian Acres? That was awhile back though and there was some sort of pilikia involving gates and things.

Considering that we have so many places on this island where there is only one road in and out of areas, anytime they can have an alternate access it would be a very good thing.

You remember well! Ainaloa Blvd became a County Road since then and is connected to 9th Road in Hawaiian Acres now, an easy breeze to Hwy 11!

Aloha John & Puna Folk,

One of these days I'll have to drive across that bypass just to see how it is. Last time I looked the back road of Hawaiian Acres was more rock than road.

It sure would be nice to somehow get the backside of Hilo attached to Paradise Park without having to go through Keaau. The Keaau bypass and the Pahoa Bypass did a lot to get tons more traffic moved through those areas, wonder if they can make a "Hilo bypass" or at least an alternate route into it.

Of course, the other thought with improving the traffic patterns are that then "they will come" and create even more traffic to deal with. Seems as soon as we improve the infrastucture then there are more folks using it.

A hui hou,
Cathy

Cathy may be on to something with the "build it and they will come" precept of development gone awry. Creating sustainable communities with nearby shopping, employment centers, schools, and other services should be a better way to go than creating commuter pathways which quickly become clogged with strip development. "Hilo-centric" planning may have outlived its usefulness, but the money and political power is centered there. Everyone should read the article on the Puna Development Plan in the March 11-24 issue of the Hawaii Island Journal. Those of us who live in HPP are not exactlly excited about the prospect of a highway being built though our subdivision, but all the indications are that the guys in Hilo have already decided it will happen. Pick up a copy of the Journal or go to www.hawaiiislandjournal.com and check it out. Aloha to all.

Jerry
