Square Footage determination for Assessment
#1
I would like to know how the County determines the square footage for structures. Is it the outside/inside dimensions of the home, the footprint, or the roof outline. Also, is the square footage of areas like lanais included in this measurement. Just curious. Mahalo!

It is based on the blueprints that was submitted at the time of the application for the building permit. In case of condos, it is based on the Final Public Report data submitted by the developer of the complex.

David - kinda a mixture.... ha ha

For bldg permits, it is the square footage on your prints. Outside dimensions, including living space and accessory bldg (lanai's, carport, garages). The bldg permits are $20/sf for living space and $10/sf accessory ... but remember that if you have a bath or 1/2 bath in an accessory building that bath becomes becomes living space. Same as an inset porch becomes accessory space not living space.

And just as John said, the assessment is based on the measurements that is used for your bldg permit.

Your mileage may vary.
