Medical Marijuana..60 Minutes

Tonight there's a spot about Medical Marijuana on 60 Minutes. I know someone here was asking about it. From what I saw it was mainly about California. Turns out some people are abusing the law. SURPRISE!!!

Yah, and that one guy that has several medical marijuana dispensaries (?) only takes a paycheck of $13,000 per month. Hmm...not too shabby. Also we got a kick outta the doctor that prescribes for people with heel pain from wearing pumps; dry skin; and there's always the dreaded soft tissue injury/back pain (which is next to impossible to prove or disprove).

Is he a criminal or just creative?

If they were to legalize it, then the Government should be happy about the taxing of it. What would be worse, spending Billions of dollars and letting our service men and women die, or getting tax on what would be a controlled, legal substance? Hope I am not too outspoken here

I imagine it would work like this, legalize, state taxes the product, and the FEDS take away all federal funds. Hey it worked for the Lottery here, give the money to the schools and take all state budgeted dollars from the schools.

No winning I'd say, but interesting thought none the less!

Maybe it'd be better to go back to the way things were before the 1930's, when medicines made from marijuana were sold in all our pharmacies and everyone used them for dozens and dozens of conditions and injuries?

It'd probably be simpler and cheaper than what we're doing now.

I have heard more and more about the history of marijuana lately. Seems that the 60's really left a bad taste in the collective Federal Government's mouth, but cultures world-wide have used it for its healing and medicinal qualities for centuries.

It just seems like the Feds have more to gain than lose by allowing it to be used. I don't use it anymore, but if I had chronic pain or nausea due to whatever, I would find a way to see if it helped.

(LOL! Just watching the other night made Tony and I consider that maybe we had some ailments that could be helped!

Being in San Francisco where there is a pot club in every neighborhood and ads in the paper for them, it's clear that the law is being abused. And personally I am all for that since I think it should be legal. This brings things much closer to how it should be where people can buy it in stores in controlled environments. I'd certainly rather have that in Puna than be asked if I want to buy it all the time when I go to the beach. Given all the legal drugs that are toxic, hundreds of unapproved food supplements that are untested, and that over 100,000 people die every year from bad prescriptions or misuse of prescribed or OTC medication, the pot clubs are probably the least of our society's substance use problems.

From Sundays paper, "Spinning the War on Drugs", the numbers show that the repression of the green is pushing the 14 - 15 Y/O crowd into experimenting with things much easier to get their hands on like glue, paint and other inhalants, or prescription drugs of past notoriety. Some interesting statistics, up for grabs how you interpret them.
