Land Values in HPP...question for our realtors
#21
Just throwing in another two cents here.

No matter where you do end up buying, visit the property at night time to see just how loud the cocqui frogs really are.

They don't croak/chirp during the day.

Also this will give you a better idea of what type of evening temperatures you are dealing with. The weather varies so much at nighttime depending on where you live.

I know people that are so disgusted by frogs in general, that after hearing them at night everywhere they looked in East Hawaii, they decided Hawaii wasn't for them.

I know plenty people who have lost pets because their pets have gone outside at night and eaten a toad!

Coqui inside house be maki coqui very soon, Damon. [:p]
My cats have brought in several. A guy in HPP wrote a letter to the Herald saying his cat(s) have brought in over 150 coqui -- alive. Not all at once, obviously.

My cats live side by side with many many bufo toads. I may have as many bufos as coqui. The cats and the toads are OK together.
Oddly I saw my one cat put her mouth up to a toad (like a sniff, but touching, and she showed no ill effects. I know they're supposed to have a paralyzing toxin.

Mostly I've heard about dogs getting into big trouble.

There are toads on Kona side. Wherever there was cane growing, and even in the desert.
Moving away from East Hawai'i you won't lose the toads, and they now have coqui on the west side too, just not everywhere. Yet.

The land I bought is in the June Listings. Time to buy... I guess it all depends if you need to. I needed to. I think I did a very good job. Researching everyday for a couple years have paid off. What do you think James W? People that jump into things without truly finding answers will have problems. I've tried to be helpful and I treat people the way I want to be treated... just remember that before going off into a frizzy.

Dan hit it right on the head - where you buy is where you're going to live EVERY day! Unless finances are right against the wall, don't make location a place to scrimp if you can possible avoid it.
