Rob,
With the steel&cement board floor system, what is the deflection? Or is it the same as a slab,0?

Rob,
I built a log home a few years back and we used SIPs for the roof. They were 8'x28'x 10" thick over purlins 12' o.c. Could these be used over steel girders instead of joists for a floor system? Seems like the cement board could be a bit cold and hard. Dan

The deflection would be determined only with the design specifications. There is no single answer. Span, joist height and gage and design load all factor in.
I don't know much about your SIP roof but would suggest that a steel joist can or will out perform a wood joist most every time.

I was wondering if there are photos available of the steel floor joists, and the posts and beams for an elevated house, say 3 or 4 feet? Perhaps a finished project that is not slab foundation.

There probably are... I don't keep any on hand though. It's not that complicated a subject. The framing would be essentially the same with three differences. Steel instead of wood, screws instead of nails and the ability to construct various beams and girders sizes on site from smaller pieces.
I have a client on Maui doing one right now. The floor framing was, for this owner builder, something that went smoothly with minimal to no discussion. Punaweb moderator
