And a shocking number of property owners aren't even aware of their generosity! I talk to neighbors (who don't bother to attend meetings) every day who still think all the roads are going to be paved.

How about those lots that are 14,000 sq.ft. AND zoned ag!

Heck, I can even outdo myself, the lots in Discovery Harbor, A GOLF COURSE SUBDIVISION, are zoned ag! It sure beats my limited knowledge! [Big Grin][}Smile][Big Grin]

The indolence engendered by living in Hawai'i, which is desirable on so many levels, gets in the way of anything resembling good governance. I've seen this before, in New Orleans.

Clearly, HPP has made an horrific mistake here. The few roads it is getting for the money are plainly not worth it. Few who chose to live in HPP actually mind that the roads are substandard. In an odd way, it adds to the charm and keeps speeds down. If I had a choice, I would choose to live on an unpaved road. Give people a paved road and they will speed on it.

What I want is improvements on Murder Alley, Hwy 130. I can't help but wonder if the money HPP ponied up for these roads might not have been spent building a light rail system to Hilo!

Unfortunately, it appears the die is cast and there is no possibility of reversing the decision. I would have voted against it if I had been asked.

Roads to nowhere.

I agree, I love the "charm" of my dirt road, and enjoy the rustic feel of it - Although it was getting very hard to navigate lately but once the crew came by and scraped it's much easier hardly any potholes now....now if they could just keep it that way. I hope the maintenance of the unpaved roads doesn't suffer due to the paved roads cost.

The Natural Road Building topic is about a reasonably priced way to "keep it that way". There's a big attraction in having dirt roads without pot holes and washboards.

If the Orchland test is successful I would expect HPP to try it out.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Well they just finished paving the first section of road in HPP on 22nd between Makuu and Paradise. Not exactly a great job....but it will at least keep the dust down. And with the wavyness of the road...you will still have to drive slow.

Considering it took a month to do one mile of road from start to finish...It should take about a year to finish everything planned.

gentlemen, start your engines!!!!! Now HPP will have four drag strips instead of one! [:o)]

I for one think the HUI at HPP be desolved. They are there for one function and that is to make sure the roads are maintained, right?! Once again the HUI has outdone themselves. I wonder how many HUI employees are living on the four roads that are set to be paved?

I just don't get it. With all the people who own in HPP and who have to pay this annual fee. The vast majority won't even benefit from the four paved roads. Four roads for 12 million dollars!?! I hope someone in that HUI office has some KY Jelly. Because after the HUI Office gets reemed, the HPP residents will surely follow!

Why isn't there more oversight with regard to how the road funds are handled? I've been told that the HUI doesn't haggle much about prices, and often gives jobs to some of the highest bidders. Road Equipment has disappeared from what I understand too. How can this happen? Who ponies up for lost equipment...residents of HPP?
In short, there is just to many questions that go unanswered here in HPP. Hell, by the time the HUI gathers another 12 million dollars for the roads. It will probably only cover two streets!?!?[V]
