On any of the documents, including insurance... they are only as good as their term of coverage lasts... make sure that your job is covered, and know what will happen if the coverage time expires.... know what will happen if the contractor does not extend coverage beyond the term.

Years ago we had a remodel-from-****. The performance insurance lapsed, we were not on top of it & the guy skipped - was in the middle of a divorce & SHE owned 1/2 the company... needless to say, the job was not finished, was not done to specifications, nor to the building codes on the permit issued, & there was nothing to 'get' as the company was driven into the sewer by the contractor.

We were working with the county permit dept. & he has not allowed to do permitted work in that county since... but we had to repay someone else to finish the job & , although we will have a judgement against his company, also had to pay teh attorney fee & such... a non-performance suit is definately not an easy undertaking.

It would have been much easier in the long run to make sure we were totally on top of all of the business stuff... but we didn't. As someone said many forum threads past, "a good education is expensive"...
