Anyone have any experience having a home built Big Island Construction in Hilo that you'd care to share? We watched them building a home in Kapaho last winter and they seem to be efficient and hard working. We are still trying to find someone to build our home near Kehena beach. I guess we are resigned that costs for this project are going to be about twice as much as what we thought we could have it built for. Most of our estimates seem to be coming in around the same price regardless if we use a general contractor or just a project manager.

Using a Project Manager for your construction should be looked at as a method of having more control over the job, including the budget, than as a method of simply saving money. A PM can be fired. A contract, if it goes sour, is a difficulty.
Assume the best and ask questions.

We had our home built by Big island Construction in 2006.Lloyd Rubio is the owner of the company and I would highly recommend him and his crew.He was always on time and completed our home in HPP in an efficient manner. His crew is quality oriented and his cost to build our home was very competitive.Feel free to give Lloyd my name as a reference. We were very uneasy about building in an area where we didn't know anyone and were pleased with this young man's work.
