Need a Screen Repaired: Recommendation?
#11
For a powder coated peachy metal frame that cannot be repaired (Alumside may be able to repair the frame):
If the screen frame is broken, check first with the manufacturer, but there is a good chance that the color may not be in their options of the year...

Second option, see if Alumside can duplicate the frame (they may even have that color in their color options, but my guess is NO). Advanced Powder Coating is on the Kona side... do not know anything about their work, but that is the only source that the welding Inst. at HCC could think of early this morning.... may be able to match the color.

Or you could just try your luck with a good spray enamel or epoxy paint by a pro... on a new metal frame

Your repairs are not normal! We also have a 'challenge' house, so I understand some of what you go through...

We've been slowly having Alumside fix and replace our bad screens a few at a time. They do great work, are very nice to work with, and have gotten everything done in 24 hours. I no longer wake up with huge welts from mosquito bites on my forehead every morning.

I want good screens because mosquitoes do not just leave welts on my wife and I, they wake us up and my wife bugs me until the mosquito is gone.

Glen,
I agree about the Paradise and hell, except Nawlins is not even my kind of hell!! And I can get good food and doctors here in Red Stick. I will probably will miss both when we finally make it to Paradise.

Stealing my own thread, I've heard Red Stick has GREAT food. I really should have checked in with you when I was down. I am very conflicted about the music, too. I love Hawaiian music.....it really makes you want to lift your eyes to the skies and sweep your hands in beautiful gestures, and yet when I was last in New Orleans (ya know, like a week ago), I also heard some great music....that made me wanna move my butt. The two places BOTH have great coffee...Hawaii, delicious and subtle, New Orleans, rich, balanced, jolting, hot and au lait.

It is definetely easier to get a screen fixed in New Orleans, though. It is a full-service city. Hawaii...better for walking around at night. In parts of New Orleans, that can be deadly. I do believe I could walk through the worst parts of Puna at night and survive.

I love Hawaii. She is so beautiful. But if I wanted to have an affair, I would definetely have it with New Orleans. She walks straight into you with and says "You're handsome....come with me." (Whether you are or not!).

Any other differences you can think of?

Where else but New Orleans can you have a HHH Beer Run like you can in N.O. (I think it was called Beer Man? ) ? Sure Hawaii has the Ironman, but to complete the Beer Run...er, Beer Man? now that takes endurance!

Every winter New Orleans takes a month off with parades, partying and dancing for Mardi Gras, and exactly 40 days after their party stops, Hilo celebrates the week of Merrie Monarch

To further pull this thread off topic:

New Orleans own Hot 8 Brass Band will be at UH-H performing arts center Fri. Sept. 18....
Glen, the best of both worlds... New Orleans Jazz in Paradise!

Oh, god. That will really stoke my conflict to new heights! I like it! I think I will try to make it! I can't think of anything more paradoxical than New Orleans music in Hawaii. I have decided that New Orleans definetely has better cocktails, the passionfruit margarita nothwithstanding.

Both Hilo and New Orleans have excellent rainshowers, but the New Orleans rainshowers may be more welcome, because they are less frequent, and because they cool things down! But then, Hawaii rainshowers move more beautifully.

I know you are all on the edge of your seats. If the framing of your screen is a color, you can take that framing some place, show them the color, they can match it, you spray the new frame, put the screen in the frame, and then put the screen in the window.

Hi Glen,

Craig Loomis at 808 345-484 gets a vote for being an affordable and reliable handyman. I'm guessing he'd be able to make your screen color work out.
