Not wanting to hijack the metal buildings thread, I will post this as a new topic. A couple of years ago, there was a company in Hilo that built metal carports for what seemed like a reasonable price. Does anyone know if they are still around and how to contact them?
Cheers,

J, assuming the carport company is gone, here is a solution. They probably had some kind of semi-prefab system and got dropped as distributors for low sales. You can make a carport out of steel framing and roofing that you can pick up (ideally) or order locally. Get a good architect after you have found your materials and he or she will make it work. An architect's fee will be about the same as the mark-up used by the prefab carport sales people. If you are not versed in steel framing then find someone with experienced steel framers who work for them and you can get it all done. Don't know about other Hawaiian architects but I have my own steel framing crew that I personally taught and equipped with the correct tools.
