Health Care Insurance question[s]
#21
quote:
Clinton tried to institute universal health care... and the Republica Right, strongly lobbied by the insurance industry, shot it down as a "socialist/communist plot by liberal democrats". Go figure.

The ONLY healthcare is not universal in this country is that insurance companies would lose their entier multi-billion dollar profit base.

Personally, I find it sad.

Just another day in P A R A D I S E !!

This country has resisited universal/socialized medicine for the longest time. Why? It is obvious that we need it more than ever. My family & I are a perfect example of this system gone. Moving to the Big Island will will no longer have the HMSA health insurance we had threw my wife's job at 'Duty Free'. Now out of my own pockets I must pay for health care. I won't even go into paying for meds, because that a "heartache" all by itself....no more co-pay for me. I guess it's time to buy my meds on line from Canada?

We should be ashamed of this country's business practices. When it messes with the integrity of a struggling family, we should hide our heads. It's all about the private sector making a buck isn't it Mr. Bush?!

I'd like to see all of America stand up for socialized medicine....we need it for the middle and lower classes of our society. I keep hearing about people having to wait to have procedures done up in Canada. I'd rather wait a few days rather than be spending the rest of my life paying off an operation bill, wouldn't you?

Beachboy, Actually Fred Kobataki had two sets of Apts. The one you are refering to and the one I was in which was behind the sugar mill. One side was probably an old house and the other half was some sort of barracks structure. In the barracks side someone always had to build a fire under the water heater each evening if hot water was desired, which it always was.

back to health care insurance. I'm having my house built in HPP. So if a late night/early morning emergency comes up. What insurance would be better for me to have, HMSA or Kaisers? I guess I'm asking who offers the most hospitals, clinics on the eastside that one can use in emergency situations, or just have regular checkups?

I realize that my wife has less than two weeks left of work, and my insurance gets cut off then!!!! For me I don't worry because I'm in terrible health already. Bad liver, bad lower back, bad left rotator cuff, and the list goes on. But my wife and kids are in good health and I want to keep it that way for them..

Aloha, Beachboy. For middle of the night emergencies, I think both Kaiser and HMSA use the Hilo Medical Center. For the rest of the time, Kaiser has only one clinic on the east side, which is just a few blocks up the hill from the Medical Center. HMSA has a lot of independent contracted providers scattered around, while all Kaiser's providers are Kaiser employees and work in their clinics.

As recently as four months ago, I had friends who had newly acquired HMSA insurance and had difficulty finding HMSA providers in Hilo who were taking new patients. I don't know if that is still the case, but you might want to look into doctor availability before buying a policy from HMSA.

I have Kaiser, and I like it. Once you are a member, they are obligated to hook you up with one of their doctors. I have seen two of them and like them both very much. I used the Kaiser website last week to request an appointment for my annual physical. I got a reply within two hours and an appointment with the doctor I requested less than two weeks out. I could not have gotten an appointment that soon with my old Blue Cross HMO in Georgia.

Cheers,
Jerry

went to Kaisers web site and got a quote of $406.00 a month to cover my family of four. I think that is very reasonable, and very affordable too..

I have Kaiser too. I haven't used it yet though. HMSA doesn't cover prescriptions. Which isn't a problem now but if anything happened it could be very costly.

I am paying $371. a month for just the three of us. Myself and my two kids. I was paying a lot less on the mainland but what can you do! I have not used there services yet. My New Years resolution is to make sure we all get check ups this year. I called a few doctors with HMSA before I decided on Kasier and I couldn't even find a doctor that was taking new patients. At least with Kaiser they have to take you.

yes, make sure you use your insurance to get your kids checked out! This past year I lost to co-workers(Beachboys) to the 'Grim Ripper'. Both cases, these guys appeared healthy as can be. But neither bothered to check what's going on inside their bodies. So they both died unecessary deaths, due to no check ups!?!?

Jade, make sure your kids are checked out annually. Sure it's a hassle, but aren't our kids priceless?

Have a nice day..
