Hula in Pahoa
#1
My partner and I hopefully are moving to the Pahoa or Keaau area in 2007. He has been very active in our local hula halau for 2 years. He would like to continue his journey with hula. It should be noted that he is in his mid 50’s and although he would love to dance like the younger Na Kane, it is not going to happen. It has been said his dance is hula light. With that being said can someone enlighten us to some possibilities for him such as on going workshops that are open to the public, hula clubs, halau in the area that understand the challenge older hula dancers face. Mahalo to all that took the time to read this. We sincerely look forward to any insight you are willing to share.

Aloha,
Lokahi and Lanakila

Lokahi, found this info in July when Mella had a question on Hula for a friend ( also try www.volcanoartcenter.org - they don't have any listing right now, but have had in the past)
found 2 community senior hula instructions. HPP community Center is one, 9:30 am at the activity center. Check out <http://www.hawaiianparadisepark.org/Seniors/hula.html>
Hawaii County Parks & Rec at Pahoa neighborhood center is the other, Friday 1-3pm <http://www.hawaii-county.com/parks/pdf/Puna%20Pahoa%20Community%20Center.pdf>
I think that there are more lessons at the Parks & Rec & at the University & the Cultural Center throughout the year.
Aloha, Carey
