Water Treatment Plant Operator?
#1
This may seem a strange question, but I maintain a regular scan of job openings in the Puna and Ka'u Districts, and there always seem to be openings for Water Treatment Plan Operators. I'm not talking just a few times. There're ALWAYS positions available. Just wish I knew something about treatment plants other than that they stink.

Does anyone know why these positions apparently have high turnover or can't be filled?

My dad worked as a treatment plant operator back east for 20 years. It's actually one of the easiest jobs in the world...but you need to have a license before they hire you and you can only get that license by going to a special training school which is on the mainland. And then they have several levels like an S3, S2, S1... S3 being an entry level. And to get to an S2 license you have to have like 5 years work experience and then take the exam and pass it. It could be that the one here is looking for someone already with experience and an S2 or S1 license which is not going to be easy to find...

I am currently a Water Treatment Plant Operator. I have also been an Elementary School Teacher. I was once told that teaching little kids must be pretty easy. The fact is, it's EASIER if you work hard, but easy? If you're turning out illiterates, maybe you should work a little harder. In the water treatment world, we track contaminants in the ppb (parts per billion) range. If the local water you drink tastes like excrement, maybe that would be a good place to apply for an easy job.
