85 y.o. could use a couple friends
#21
I had the opportunity to meet and chat with the gentleman today and share a beer. What a great guy. Although not very mobile he's sharp, loves company and has a whole bunch of stories to tell that he only hinted at today. I felt privileged to meet him and will make sure I'll return as regularly as I can. He also made it clear how much he appreciated his new bed, so thank you, topograph! It was also a pleasure to meet you too, Rob!

He loves visiting the ocean and we had a chat about visiting the Puna coast in the Kalapana area during one of my photography runs, and he said what he loves more than anything is picnics! But it was also very clear that the thing he needs most is simply some occasional company and friends to talk to, so hope some of you will be able to help out from time to time. He's a truly nice guy and very appreciative of anyone taking some time to visit.

Thanks again, Rob, for helping him out.

Tom, I look forward to seeing you again and thank you for the time and interest in our elderly gentleman. I hope one or tow others have a little time to spare.

Mahalo everyone.

Just one more request/plea from me. I visited the gentleman again today and we had a great time, again his stories are wonderful to hear. He's independent although still waiting to get back some things he needs (a phone and motorized wheelchair for instance) and considering his age, as sharp as a tack. He is desperate for some occasional company though. It won't take much, just a few minutes of your time when you're in the area and he's quite capable of doing most of the talking! I hope one or two of you will be able to help out, you will feel rewarded, I promise.

I thought I might bump this up. TomK has been very nice in visiting. It would be wonderful if some others might find a little time to do the same. I don't think you would regret it.

By the way: Our elderly friend is looking for someone to hire to take him into town and shop a couple times a month. Not looking for a freebie.
