FYI on sunscreen

This doesn't really portray to Hawaii, or Puna but..... It's a good read and I was not aware of how mis-informed I was on sunscreen. Like anything above SPF-30 is even worse or no better. But they do put out a list of the best ones to buy. Inform yourself, since reading the back of the product isn't going to do you any good.

I had a dermatologist tell me to never use sunscreen that was over 1 year old. He said it loses ability to block the suns rays and can in fact make things worse.

Here the sun is so intense I don't use sunscreen, but instead stay out of the sun during peak hours in the summer months. If I start to get pink I know it is time to move into the shade. Haven't burned yet in the over 5 years we've been here, and I am very fair skinned.

I use 50SPF sunscreen when I go jogging every afternoon on the lower part of Makuu...but its always after 4pm when the suns rays are not as intense. I'm also fair skinned and have never burned yet either. I guess from this article that I really only need SPF30. They actually charge more $$$ in some stores for the higher SPF.
