Please! Geckos: toothless cute things with suction-cup fingers. They couldn't hurt you if they wanted to. I suggest adopting some and handling them (they may lose their tail if frightened of YOU.) They eat mosquitos; you don't have to feed them or take them to the vet. Think of them as moving jewels.

I'm with everyone else, give me a lizard with a sweet tooth over a centipede any day! They are sneaky, hiding in pant legs so all the sudden as you dress your leg starts hurting like heck. (It's really hard to be graceful OR calm hopping on one leg while trying to rip the clothes off your body.) My lovebirds woke me up scolding last year & when I got out to the porch there was a 7-8 in. long giant centipede crawling on/in their cage. (The sound the exoskeleton makes against the metal cage gave me chicken skin.) Just this afternoon I was cleaning out the hen's nesting boxes and found this guy in the nest box that no one has laid in for almost a week. I would have put my hand by him so you could get an idea of size but he kept moving & I wasn't going to chance it. Normally the hens eat them but they didn't want to get near this guy, at 6-7 in. he was just too big.
