HobbyGarden in HPP
#1
Has anyone ever visited Mr. Lum's HobbyGarden park in HPP? I heard about those train rides for the kids. He does gardening classes too.

By word of mouth I was told it was a good thing to do. I just haven't tried it.

Thanks for bringing this place to my attention. Looks like a great spot to take my grandaughter. My daughter told me today that that is where little Robins first birthday party was held last July. Alas, we were not living here yet and couldn't get to the island for it. We are living here now since Sept 5th, and I see another trip to the Hobby Garden in the cards soon. And, it's very close to me.

We stopped in once because there was a sign that said "plants" and took a look around. Gotta say - it was sorta weird. We tried to see past the entry and caught a glimpse of big plywood tables with "grass carpet" on them. The little sign said there was a $5 entry fee (I see from the site that doesn't include the little train ride). An elderly Asian woman then tried to interest me a couple of things from behind the counter--brown stuff in a bottle and what a baggy of what looked like instant tea. But she didn't speak English, so the little girl (very cute) who obviously lives there (the lady's granddaughter?) told me "it's good for you." I have no idea what the heck either thing was! Anyway, we passed on both the good-for-you stuff and the train ride, thanked them for their time and went on. When we got home, we looked them up online and saw the photos - if only they had some in the waiting area of what was in there, we might've gone for it. But not for $5.

addendum: just reading the site. The entry is $5 for adults, $3 for kids; no adults on the train, just kids age 2-10, who are charged for $4 once around the track. I don't know what to think of this place!
