Alkaline Drinking water
#1
Been doing some research about drinking alkaline water to balance my body's ph. A term I keep reading about is multiclustering. Machines that do this to water cost a few thousand dollars. People swear by results they are getting by drinking Alkaline water. Anybody got some insight? Is the machine at Island Naturals Hilo the real deal?

Here's some insight: your body can regulate its own pH just fine. Don't fall for these scams.

The water you drink goes into your stomach which secretes hydrochloric acid, and the pH of your stomach varies, from 1-2 up to 4-5. Some people increase the ph by adding an alkaline or neutralizing source... Concrete catchments act to neutralize water, and some people just toss a concrete block into their catchment...

Water that's alkaline enough to have any effect on your body would be liable to burn off the lining of your mouth and throat first, like drain cleaner. Very slightly alkaline water (pH 8 or so) is beneficial only in that it's likely to have less dissolved gunk in it than slightly acidic water. But unless something is seriously out of whack (like there's rotting vegetation in your catchment tank turning it acidic), there's probably nothing to worry about.

The alkaline water "craze" is just that--more marketing hype by some people hoping to get very rich selling snake oil to unsuspecting customers. Save your money. Anecdotal evidence is not really evidence at all.

Please don't buy this snake oil. Island Naturals and other health food stores really profit off people's lack of scientific education and critical thinking ability. Don't support their scams. See: http://www.chem1.com/CQ/ionbunk.html
