My brother is a Matson Captain. He does Matsons Hawaii run and Oakland is their "main" departure point for Hawaii....but they also go out of Los Angeles to Hawaii.

This will give you goose bumps. Over 100,000 OWS protester are now at the Oakland port preventing trucks from coming in. Watch this aerial video showing all of them on the highway leading to the port.

Mark P,

Seems like a good question to me.

It's not unusual for the people of a country to hold a national strike, usually for the purpose of forcing their government and it's associated financial elites to change unpopular policies.

Perhaps they're trying, writ small, to do the same thing?

If McDonald's opened a store in Pahoa, people might organize a national strike, to have it removed.

Given the enormous size of the crowd, people could be embarking on a pilgrimage. Does anyone know if the Port of Oakland has any spiritual significance to our major religions?

Either that, or those people really like the Port of Oakland.
