Sleeping Grass in HPP
#1
Anybody got solutions? I've simply been pulling them out by the roots with a pair of pliers. But that is getting very tough to keep up with. I don't like depending on herbicides, but I'm getting pretty close to using it with this monster weed that's taking over my acre.

We have the same problem in parts of our yard!

Also do not want to use herbicides, but may treat difficult areas with Aquamaster. it is safe to use around water, non toxic to fish and wildlife.

They are actually pretty easy to pull out with a good pair of pliers and a pair of gloves. With all this rain, they just been exploding.

TomK, it's called sleeping grass or sensitive weed bc when you touch it, the leaves immediately collapse. Which sometimes makes it hard to see. They have thorns, so you have to get your fingers at the base at the soil and pull. Post-rain time makes it easier, but the bigger ones are tough buggers and are hard to pull. Definitely more of them w/all this rain.

Oh, that stuff! I didn't know what it was called.
I pull it if it's in a bed, but in the gravel we do herbicide it. I don't like herbicide either, and never used it before Hawai'i, but now we do use it. Hard not to if your property is of any size.

Legend has it that missionaries brought it to Hawaii to encourage locals to wear shoes. I do know that I exclaim the names of various deities every time I step on some barefoot, so there may be something to the legend...

hikatz and DTisme - thank you so much! I have a real problem with that stuff as well, just didn't know what it was called. I can also tell you it's very painful to pull if you don't wear thick gloves. I learned that lesson some time ago...
