Monsoon traffic
#1
Okay, so now we all know that East Hawaii has a monsoon pattern. At least it's not as bad as what Thailand and other parts of SE Asia have been suffering. But my daughter has to drive to Kona today with a carload of food for a wedding tomorrow. The fog on Saddle Road makes me nervous for her in that small car, the radar shows a huge day-long (at least) band of heavy rain for the south and east side of the island. But there's been so much rain that the Hamakua Coast roads have had mudslides and we've been there, done that.

Does anyone have any personal experience in the last 24-48 hours with the various road conditions between Hilo and Kona? Can't find anything online beyond an expired flash flood alert. Thanking you in advance.

We have someone staying at our house for a few days. He flew into Kona yesterday and drove Saddle Road and arrived at our place in HPP about 3:30 PM. He said the road was fine, but there was some fog.

Went to Kona and back both days over Saddle Road. It was fine. The fog was thicker at night on the way back, but nothing that going slow and being careful wouldn't get through. I would say go for it!

It's too late now for Frankie's daughter, and Saddle is a fine choice, but fyi Hamakua was cleared yesterday.
