So on our property is this prickly plant. It is OWIE with a capital O.
It is a low growing viney type of plant that is growing like a weed. I took a camera pic of it and can upload it somewhere if that helps. It has hundreds of spiney things on it and it hurts when you touch it.lol
So does anyone have a clue what it is? And do I need to chop it to bits or leave it?
We have tons of ferns, guava, banana, ohia, so many wonderful plants. But this one HURTS.
Damn, I'm so glad I'm here!!!!

Well, it sounds very similar to sleeping grass but sleeping grass closes up when you touch it and since you didn't mention anything about it closing up I doubt it's sleeping grass. As with most vines, just pull 'em out at the root to make sure you get rid of them. Make sure you where gloves!

We get a few of what must be sleeping grass, I pull them with a pair of pliers. They are ugly.

I'm pretty sure it's not sleeping grass, and I found a few places on the property where it's growing much like trees! YIKES. This stuff has a three leaf pattern and white flowers on some of it. Small white flowers.
Anyway, it's all over the property, painful, owie, owie, owie. I'm pulling it out as I find it, and I swear that's all I'm going to get done this trip. Some of those thorns are a half inch long.

That looks like something in the raspberry family...take a sample, or even the picture to the Ag research station on Komohana Rt (above/near the UHH campus... their Master Gardeners should be able to ID it & give you the best eradication advice

That is Rubus Ellipticus, the Yellow Himalayan Raspberry. In my experience it produces little to no fruit, is thorny, grows huge, and is rampantly invasive. Repeated applications of glyphosate will kill it although there are probably better herbicides. An aggressive policy of uprooting the babies whenever found works well.
