Sorry MarkP but you are wrong. This has been proven for many, many years by no-kill shelters who are very successful. One example of many: Francisvale in Pennsylvania. Dogs and cats, no kill.
Oh, and cats turned away don't usually die. Feral cats seem to be quite successful in most instances. That TV show about life after humans said one year after humans die off, dogs are gone and cats are thriving.
