cruise ship???
#1
Wondering does any cruise liner provide service from Hilo to Honolulu? Seeing Maui would be a bonus but not necessary.

I was thinking of either taking a sea cruise to Honolulu and flying back or flying to Honolulu and catching a ship back to Hilo.

Anyone done it? Cost? Experience? How long does it take?

Thanks!

Well, after doing a bit of research... That option is out. The only inter island rides available starts in honolulu and does the 5 island loop that ends up right back in honolulu again start @ 1K per person tho I'm sure you can find deals it's not something I am interested in in.

In short of finding someone that has the experience and a boat the only way your gonna get out of Hilo to Honolulu besides Go and Hawaiian is Swim or buy your own boat.

Unless someone has more idea's? I'd think finding just some random dude with a 32' boat would be kinda risky since boating that far in open oceans can be tricky when an unknown storm rolls in. Think Gligans Island. Altho, the possibilities of winding up on a remote island does sound kinda cool. Smile

Kinda sad that back in 1800's they had more options than we got now. Going by ship anyway.

I wish Hawaii residents could buy sections of unused cruise tickets for here on the Islands. I would love to cruise a few islands without having to fly between them and change hotels every time, but adding on the RT ticket to Honolulu makes it way to expensive. We could get on in Hilo, do part of the loop, and then fly home, or just do the whole circuit. I am not a big fan of cruises per se, but it seems like a good way to see several islands on one vacation.

OK, None of these are economy options:

Kona Aggressor is a dive cruise that puts out of Kailua Kona pier, but stays out mainly in the Kona up to lower Maui waters:

American Safari Cruises

offers a one way week from Kawaihae to Honolulu (in the future) or Lana`i (now):

You can also look at trying out to crew on a boat (like the canoes... but that is way lotta work!)
