Speaking of Accidents... 12/1
#1
What happened between Humane Society and Pohaku Dr on Hwy 130 yesterday about 2 PM?

Look like a car had overturned but everything was being cleared by the time we went by.

We were in Keaau on our way home close to when it happened. Lots of folks in front of us did a U turn, perhaps to go up the mountain, across and back down through Ainaloa? Thankfully we stayed the course because the police and emergency vehicles responded quickly. When we passed the accident scene I only caught a glimpse of one car. It wasn't overturned but its front right fender was completely destroyed, meaning, the fender, wheel and tire were gone. Someone clearly got hurt, hopefully no loss of life. Also worth noting is that driving conditions, visibility, etc. couldn't have been better. Still trying to imagine how the accident went down...

Ever notice how many cars seem to be on the side of the road with wheels ( Im talking the steering knuckle being all that's left). Wheels missing or at a "v" (snapped tie rod) .... I have been watching cars a while - in 40-50 years know of one tie rod failure in dry climates.

Seems in the last year I have seen 3 or 4 cars sidelined with scary front end failures.... rusted out suspension? alignment adjustment sleeves? impact damage from pot holes - all of the above? wonder what the deal is.

Come to think of it, it was an older car, looked like a beater actually...the rust-and-too-many-potholes theory might apply.
