After nearly draining our 10,000 gallon tank a few years ago watering plants, we built an 2K overflow tank using old roofing and plastic from HD. Just extended the overflow siphon into the new tank and it stays pretty full, even with a hose siphoning water into the greenhouse soaker system. We've never had the main tank get even close to empty since. (There are only two of us, not counting the plants)
Then we put gutters on the garage and a 4K swimming pool on sale at Wally's. That siphons into the overflow tank, too, and reduces puddles near the house.
All three tanks were overflowing a few days ago. We're in Hawaiian Acres.
The overflow tank has tilapia, and the swimming pool wound up filled with water lilies and goldfish, so the water we siphon for gardening is pre-fertilized.
