Does anyone know of a repairman who could look at a flat screen TV, and be able to diagnosis it's problem?

Cost of repairing, without warranty, buy a New one ! they use less electric.

Think I saw a place on Kilauea between Sangha Hall and Two Sisters that repairs televisions. Looked like a curio shop from an old sci-fi program from the 60's, except that instead of curios, such as a monkey's paw, there were televisions in various states of repair."

most tv repairs these day a matter of swapping boards - if you can upgrade computer memory - its not a big stretch to do tv repair

doing some internet research on the make and model will very often return common failures and symptoms

ne boards (most tv's have three) can be had on ebay.... power supplies seem to be most problematical - there were a few years where there were bad capacitors in the world electronics pipe line - many of those power boards seem to be failing right now.....

The only problem is, sometimes when a power board fails it takes out something else with it. So it's a crap shoot. Being how you can get a new TV for 4-600 bucks and your ebay part is probably going to set you back a good 100 after shipping.

I'm with Norm. Buy a new one that consumes 7-15 bucks a year. Than go buy a UPS to plug it into! Smile Over the 5 years you'll most likely save twice as much as the cost of the new tv in power alone.

in the old days one bad circuit would take out the others. The newer integrated circuitry has fail safe built in

tvs usually have three boards (flat screen)

a power board -

a main board

and a high voltage inverter board that drives the flat screen

power boards are usually the culprit look for12v and 24v pins

if you have a volt meter check the pins for output before buying a board - most models have a diagnostic feature in the led - my vizio is either amber or white - each representing a "mode"

agreed buying new an option - on the other hand -

my motivation.....

keeps one more item out of the land fill or waste disposal system

Not sure if this will help,

http://www.ehow.com/about_6081834_flat-s...blems.html

ad on craigslist for repairs, http://honolulu.craigslist.org/big/ele/4039845969.html

There are repair shops in Hilo, most charge a deposit before they will check out the TV. (guaranteed money) if the estimate is to expensive, and you decide the TV is not worth repairing, the deposit is non-refundable.
LED TV's at Target, Walmart and Amazon are very inexpensive, check prices online.

Is your flat screen is a Samsung?

Vizio as well I keep a spare board .... seems some of the research indicates that the average flat screen goes about three years before failure
