Thanks Rainyjim, I called Friends of HVNP before heading out today, they called back: the VIPs will be able to stay...for now....

I just got a reply finally! They should be able to stay in the park until this ends. Two of my friends that are staying in the VIP housing are taking this as an opportunity to visit one of the neighboring islands - i was thrilled to hear such a positibe plan in light of the disheartening situation.

I hope everyone else...tourist, VIP, and locals keep in mind that our island is rich in beauty and hidden gems just waiting to be discovered - there is plenty to keep us busy in the interim! The cup is more than half full on Hawaii Island folks!
