HPP Neighborhood Watch "dangerous" dog campaign?
#41
As much as I dislike the fact that we have a neighbor who lets his aggressive dogs run loose at night, and have had a rooster farm nearby in the past, I would be opposed to HPP imposing CC&Rs. It is one thing to impose those kinds of rules at the time a subdivision is developed, but doing so decades later is changing the rules of the game after play has started. I would add that Leilani has CC&Rs and has also had vicious dog issues, so I doubt they would do anything except open the door to rule mongering by the board.

Ha! I'd be thrilled if the Board could even uphold it's own bylaws......PRODUCE POLICY AND FOLLOW IT for example !!
No threat of CCR's in the future here.
Not even the chance of speed limit enforcement without speed limit signs that meet county reg.s. Computer system ,Quickbooks, has cost us over 30k and still can't function properly. Not sure how much we've spent on office staff time for this situation. HPP being in violation of the Federal Clean Air Act is not trivial. At least the Board minutes indicate that the Board members are no longer making goofy statements about not taking it seriously. The board member who floated the idea for the current ballot ( public access to main roads, etc. )is apparently no longer a Board member as his seat is now vacant. Any BUSINESS MINDED person out there willing to "try" to make a difference? (Don't have to be from his district). Back to the thread!
It's really hard to get help w/ loose dogs via the Humane society or the police. We've had a couple of bad situations on Kaloli Pt. What a group of us now do down here , is inform each other if we see a dog loose in our area via email & support each other if there is difficulty in getting the owner to take responsibility . My husband and I carry "walking sticks" when we go on our daily walks. Never have had to use them, thank goodness. Neighborhood watch can help to a certain extent, but getting to know your neighbors on your own street and setting perimeters has worked the best for us. Has also carried over to adjoining streets. Love my dogs! They are always fenced! Don't expect others to love my dogs or put up with them!

Does anyone know if the Animal Control/ Neighborhood Watch partnership had any success? Were any dogs actually hauled off?

Note to rooster farmers:

I like to do all my chainsawing/weedwhacking/blowing late at night....under bright lights.
My air compressors run much cooler at night as well. Wink

As I understand it, the police and Humane Society ran the sweep from repeated calls of attacks on walkers, bikers & pets. They were only able to sweep the lower part of HPP and are scheduling from 9th on up in the near future. Two dogs were caught and several citations were issued. I have no details if the owners came to pick the dogs up or if they were strays.

seems the issue is not unique to Puna - an online map is the OC mainland proposal: http://www.dailypilot.com/ocnow/tn-dpt-o...4422.story

I am so happy, the worst offenders on our street just moved out, the last thing they took were their dead cars and their poor miserable half starved "guard dogs" who were kept chained up all the time. Their "house dog" is the one they let wander. I am sorry for their new neighbors, where ever they are.
