The map shows the interaction of wind patterns across an entire hemisphere at one time. It would probably be incredibly interesting to watch during hurricane season:

OMG, this site is fascinating. You can not only rotate the globe but zoom in. Its now clear why Honolulu gets most of the vog from Kilauea.
