bypassing County for zoning/planning complaints
#1
SB2770 would allow property owners to take land use complaints directly to Circuit Court:

I wonder what brought this on?

Probably due to the County's arbitrary approach to enforcing zoning code.
Assume the best and ask questions.

Article specifically mentions this being raised by an Oahu rep, responding to constituents' concerns about an Oahu incident -- hoping someone has the juicy details.

Still probably the same thing. If you want details call the staff of the legislator that sponsored the bill and let us know.

It sounds like a "power to the people" moment. County won't enjoy that. They'll be called to testify why they did not enforce the codes.

It looks more like another move to eliminate "home rule", just like with geothermal and GMO.

This will lead to bloodshed. It can be used as a weapon of harassment. If you have a busybody neighbor with the money to sue they could have you in court every week whether there is any cause or not.

First thing would be the subdivisions that are zoned A-1 but have 7500sf lots.

Then downtown Hilo, and Pahoa, all the vacation rentals along the red road...

Specifically, it's about illegal B&B's that have proliferated in the Kailua area the last 10 years.
