Happy Birthday . . .

. . . Jarheads. Today is the 231st BD of the U.S. Marine Corps, so enjoy a big 'ol piece of cake! A very non-political Semper Fi from an aging squid

aloha,
Gene

I have already reviewed the Commandant's B-day message, reread Lejenes B-day message and have set about with the plan of the day.

Some good links:

And as one of my old SGTMAJs would say "There is a sandwich in every beer and a porkchop in every whisky."

Today at the grocery I picked up my Vetrans Poppy, called this year a "Buddy Poppy".

I hope today first Vetrans Parade, since 1945 was well attended. Thanks Carey for keeping us informed!

Wasn't at the parade, as we were helping rehab a place in Hilo, but got to see off 3 of the 20 WW2 vets (they normally help on the rehab work, but were all spiffed up today!) Did hear that is was very well attended (& the old guys talked story after! Think it meant alot to them that people did show up & care)

I meant to post this yesterday but I was way busy as I was able to attend the MC Ball last light as a guest and today was about co-ordinating the set-up of flags with Scouts at a couple of cemetaries for Veteran's Day.

I am in SoCal right now, working for a couple years before we move back to Puna. Well, myself and few other marines went to breakfast, then off to get haircuts and a hot towel straight razor shaves. When I returned to my rover there was a 6 pack of good beer on the seat and a pack of "Reds" with a short note that said "Happy Birthday Marine." (I love that they left smokes, along with the beer, because even non-smokers smoked in the marines.) It really made my day. On Nov 10 I always tell everyone "Happy Marine Corps Birthday", sometimes I get back a Semper Fi and it strikes me a strange how many marines are out there.

The Commandant had a really good message this year (its a video).
