Found a large male, brown and white hound mix, lying on the edge of the jungle near the ocean in Hawaiian Shores. He has a collar and looks well cared for. Has a broken tail (seems like an old injury). Might have a minor leg injury or just wandered away from home.
We'll take him to the Keaau shelter in the morning if we can't otherwise locate his family.

a basset Hound?
I believe that is someone's who lives out in Seaview but is on vacation so it may have wandered off from dogsitter.
This dog (if its the one ) is a wanderer. We found it twice near Kapoho.
Can you email me a pic and I can tell you for sure.

Try to find the owner before taking him to the shelter. PLEASE! Many times, dogs have been taken or left at the shelter and they just vanish. Then the owner is never to find their beloved pet again. Just try your best before taking him to the Humane Society.

We've walked him around the neighborhood... and are checking with everyone we know. We'll keep trying for a few days as we get the same advice from multiple people. I'm sure his family is missing him (being a dog owner myself).

He's back with his family in HPP. Many thanks to our vet in Keaau (Kilauea) for reading the microchip and holding the dog until the owner retrieves him.

You are awesome! Mahalo to the vet, and bless you both.
