"6 - The long red light at Walmart and PKM intersection ."
I think the intersection at Kino'ole and Ponahawai is worse, and you're a captive audience for the idiot with the anti-Obama signs. Intersection in Kanoelehua and Kamehameha can be a long one, then you get hung up in the intersection when the light changes because of people trying to make a left turn into Ken's.

punafish, jrw, humbled by your comments, and mahalo ia 'oe. I hold the same sentiment for you both, and many here. Carol, you nailed it, as usual. Mahalo.
We all put our pants on the same way, is what my Papa taught me. Basics, as it were. Now, right or left leg first, gives more of an insight into your being. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" is the old adage; however, when in Puna, well... (pregnant pause) for those of us who have our piko here, we have learned the art of tolerance, to a fault. Some of us have the luxury of kupuna teaching. Several generations worth. When we discuss issues, the passion of opinion derived from personal experience, dictates our written word. Given the added anonymity of most here on this forum, some tend to forget we are all important, and allowed an opinion. It does not, however, allow for insults to one's character. Hopefully, we can all move forward towards the common goal; a better community for all of us, and our ohana. Pog, mahalo to you for this thread. It needed to come back to center, here on Punaweb. I'm going back outside to see the mahina (moon) as the clouds separate over our aina, revealing a magnificent sight. JMO. Intersections in Hilo and lights that are not timed to the speed limit annoy many of us.Yes the man with the hate signs at the park is much like University Ave in Berkeley Calif, except in Berkeley Calif,it is a free for all and a mile long of every sort of comment known to Human Kind.My wife insists he is not married and i tend to agree,he must have some sort of pension as he does not seem to have any visible means of support.Sitting all day 5 days a week in the park as he does.
He is a true man of Hate indeed,we drive away from that place when ever we must transcend into town avoiding him and his spew of hate signage . Yes people trying to enter Kens or exit Kens is always annoying. One little known law is to never block driveways if stopped at a light, some intersections have the signage to remind all of us,especially at the down town fire house or at the dentist complex across the Dept of Ag at the arboretum . Another annoyance is the people who race from Hilo,to get stuck at the red light at the Pahoa - Kea'au bypass 7 vehicles in front of us. But we get used to it,we make our own paths when we venture out to town and always courteous with other drivers, especially tourists .

Intentional. Otherwise you'd never have time to look around and see all the retailers offering goods and services. Seriously.

Lights can be timed in one direction, which cause them to appear out of synch when driving in the opposite direction. I'm not sure if they do this in Hilo, but in some cities the lights are timed to be green when you drive into town for work in the morning, then set so you hit green lights on the way out of town in the afternoon as people head home. This keeps the majority of the traffic moving, but drivers headed out of town in the AM and into town in the PM will hit more red lights.
