At the bottom of this page there are 7 independent weather stations thru out the area. From Volcano to Kalapana. It shows wind speed at different points and direction. Earlier today these stations went from virtually nothing to now gentle winds.

From the satellite images it appears the eye wall has deteriorated substantially. I'm wondering if off gassing from Kilauea has messed up the electrical attributes of the hurricane because it was still a ways out when that deterioration occurred.

Been watching the Weather Channel and this is their take.

The strongest winds and the largest storm surge will be on the north side of the eye.
The strongest winds will also be at higher elevations.

The most damaging storms in Kapoho were well south of the Island.

Another thing for people to watch out for is overflowing catchment tanks. As we all know overflowing can destroy a tank, and they aren't cheap to replace. Ours is full right now so we've taken off the cleanout cap so no more will go into the tank from the roof. Figuring we won't use that much water for a few days so leaving the cap off for the next 3 or four days will relieve the one overflow pipe of doing all the work, just the rain from above is filling the tank..
