That article is 10 years old, however one was posted yesterday saying something similar:

According to this article, if Mauna Loa does erupt, Kilauea may stop:

"In the last 3,000 years, Mauna Loa has erupted on average every five to six years, Thelen said.
But that may just mean we are due."

kathy, i think you hit the nail on the head. land is cheep because of these threats. i can only be grateful that i have the opportunity to 'rent' such beauty for however long she allows me to do it. at the moment i am above the flows, but there is always the real risk of loosing everything to fire, or a different eruption, or another hurricane, earthquake... (but not tsunami - i really am to high for that!) the people who live here will stay here. the people who are speculating or holiday homing will go back. prices will crash, which is a good thing, not a bad one. perhaps the people who live here will then be able to. my aloha to you all, and my prayers to those in real distress.
