Property tax breaks for homeowners ....

....That are cut off by lava? Just wondering if the county can be convinced that values may be decreased by the flow.

The properties in Royal Gardens were assessed at zero.

Most them were covered up, what I'm wondering about are the properties not necessarily covered up, but cut off from the rest of the county.

The Finance Department/Property Tax Division has representatives at the Pahoa Community Center - Mon thru' Fri, 8 am to 4 pm.

All the properties which were covered or cut off pay $25 in property tax. This includes Royal Gardens, Kalapana Gardens and other small owners in between. Many don't pay it and it is not worth for the county to enforce collection, so the taxes keep piling up until they are sold and have to pay back taxes. Here is one example in Kalapana Gardens.
