#1
There is supposed to be meteor showers tonight. I just went outside and the stars were so bright. I didn't even look real.

The peak of the Perseids meteor showers it tonight. Look to the northeast if it's a clear night sky.

There is suppose to be a "star party" at the Mauna Kea visitor center tonight with regard to the meteor shower. The center will be open for most of the night for viewing the event.

Hi all, this is sort of on topic but I have a ? While we were there this past July 1 - 14th, staying in HPP. One evening we were looking toward the southeastern sky and saw what appeared to be a bright blinking light every 9-10 seconds. It didn't move much, was more stationary but the stars around it moved, of course. We were thinking it might be what is called a geosynchronous flasher, but would sure appreciate any info anybody else might have

I don't know what that is, but I think I have seen it as well... I figured it was either some type of high-altitude military testing (i.e., something blowing up) or the bright flashing light of an aircraft at 35,000ft.

There is also the flashing light from the lighthouse at Kapoho which can be seen from Hawaiian Shores and elsewhere, but that isn't in the sky, obviously.

Time is an illusion, but a handy one. Without it, we would not be able to hear sounds, and without that ability, we would have no music.

The Orionids were spectacular here last night, IF you were above the clouds...for a picture from an amateur astronomer from Haleakala see:

there may still be some meteors visible tonight (if the clouds stay away)
