Pahoa makes Top-50!!!

Yes, it's true. We're #26 on the list of "50 Best Small Town Downtowns in America". Yet another reason to distrust the media.

Their review: "Pahoa is one of the beautiful villages found on Hawaii’s Big Island. Located near the larger city of Hilo, Pahoa has a unique small town vibe. There are many eclectic shops and boutiques, eateries, art galleries and much more. The retro feeling of the town is a short distance from dried lava fields and under an hour from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The small town is an excellent place to both live and visit."

From their criteria: "We paid close attention to the general appeal to the downtown area, including such things as general appearance, festivals or special events, dining, shopping, entertainment, arts and culture, parks, proximity to airports and hotels amenities available."

Wow, we are just all over the place aren't we? This is great publicity, it's my favorite town due to the lack of pretentiousness. Real people, real town, active volcano doesn't let us get too cocky.

I wonder what KathyH thinks about this? She must be imploding.

LOL, they had me at "general appearance". The photo of our lovely church, while unaltered, fails to convey the essence of our little town, I fear. On the other hand I can't argue with the "short distance from dried lava fields" statement.

Not much of a stretch -- fairly accurate, compared to the "hotel/airport", or "near the larger city of Hilo" (which is neither near, nor a city).
