for those who are paying attention, know it doesn't work anymore.
In a post 9/11 world, I would think the worst possible way to make your point is to fly into the air space of a building that had been a target on September 11, 2001. There are three possible results:
1) He's standing for our freedom
2) He lands his gyrocopter, and is arrested
3) He's shot down, and almost no one is surprised
If you agree with his message, fine. But as Marshall McLuhan said, "the medium is the message." In this case, the man who chose to deliver his message by gyrocopter to the US Capital too closely aligned himself with the medium of 9/11 terrorists. He can easily look like a terrorist himself to anyone paying attention, even more easily to those paying a little attention. Even if he's not a terrorist. I think the gyrocopter was a bad way to try to gain support for his cause.
As terracore mentioned, a pro helicopter post is a first for Punaweb, so you're playing to a tough crowd here whalesong.

This isn't about humor, it's about a mans courage to stand up against the corruption in Politics and who is demanding change. I'm sure he tried all the other, so called means, to make his point, but for those who are paying attention, know it doesn't work anymore.
Many are in for a rude awakening, that's when I'll find humor in your ignorance to pay attention, to those who are trying to create a Better World for us all to live in.
Keep laughing, it is the best medicine, but theres nothing funny here to see.

"the medium is the message."
In this case the medium got a few minutes of the nation's attention span, and the message has a subtext to the effect that we're not safer despite all the post-9/11 spending and new "security procedures".
This guy was basically willing to die for something he believed in, and that's just awesome.
Perhaps he was "allowed" to succeed so the FAA could continue to justify their (lack of) domestic drone policy. The security sector can certainly regurgitate this "problem" with lots of hand-wringing on Faux News.
In any case, the old "going postal" has been elevated -- hopefully more demonstrations like this will see a redefinition of the term.

I think it's also a first for a McLuhan quote - what is punaweb coming to? However, you might find a more receptive and comfortable audience with the alternatives of "the medium is the mess age" or even better "medium is the massage" (could use one myself
As for the pilot and his whirlybird - um, yeah, what was the message? Something about "saving America" with some unstated solution to government corruption? As kalakoa mentioned, got enough national attention, I can almost hear the soundtrack for the movie now...
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast,
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted, just an earth-bound misfit, I

Shine on you crazy diamond!
I like it.
He could approach the capital in slow motion, the matching rhythmic thuwp, thuwp, thuwp of the chopper blades keeping time to Pink Floyd. The song rises to a crescendo when he touches down:
Shine on you crazy diamond!

Everybody blames the government for everything. The only thing everybody doesn't seem to comprehend is the government is them, formed out of the society from its members. The government is a nonphysical entity and made physical by its citizens. Any trends and opinions regarding it are formed by observing its collective performance. Government is a mirror of ourselves in our image, especially in a democratic society, chosen by its citizens. The function of government is the same as a governor on internal combustion engines, it has to be there or the engine throws itself apart. These obstructionists are like the sailor that "accidentally" drops the monkey wrench into the turbine so he can get some well deserved shore leave. Yes, it creates work for everybody, trying to fix the dropped monkey wrench, and everybody being busy is a good thing, right? That's why its called busy work.
