Construction Insurance for owner/builders

For those of you who went the owner builder route, did you get construction insurance, and if so, would you do so again? Having read many horror stories about theft of materials, wondering if this would help protect us (in addition to staying on the property during the construction period).

When we sold our house I converted our homeowners policy into one that covered liability on our vacant lot and for the value of stuff stored there but it wasn't a construction loan. It was through USAA.

Regardless of insurance,

I would only purchase materials / supplies to have on hand just what you need at the moment. Also, I would plan to live on site for the duration of construction - or plan to have someone ( a caretaker? ) live on site.
