Question for Tom
#1
Quick question. Are the holes in the signs on the summit so they don't get blown around by the wind? Wait, or is it an conspiracy!??

PS, you still haven't picked out an evil scientist costume. I was thinking a Wizard outfit with a slightly pointed TMT dome replica in place of a hat. Mine is your standard airline pilot uniform, with Chemtrail spewing wings for a hat and a cape made of dollar bills. I am still working on my laugh. Muaaaaa ha ha ha!! No set date on the next Anti-Captain Planet Pollution Party.

Oh, those holes were made by one or two people upset at the new restrictions on Mauna Kea:

Seriously, yes, the holes are there because of frequent high winds. It wasn't that long ago a 189-mph gust was recorded at the CFHT, and 100-mph+ winds are not uncommon during the winter and early spring.

Hi DoryGray,

No, I haven't. The reviews look good and cosmology is always a tough subject to explain in simple words, think I might order a copy. Thanks!

I will never forget when I saw those hole-ridden signs for the first time. I thought they really might be bullet holes and asked Tom if they were. He, in turn, might have been frightened about just what kind of background I might have come from...

I remember that trip to the summit, although I don't remember my answer about the holes. Knowing me, I probably tried to wind you up, but I genuinely forget.

On the other hand, I remember the sunset that evening and remember you writing some poetry or similar while we watched the western sky change colour and darken while sat in a JAC vehicle. It was a special night for me. We left the summit much later than the usual tourists would have done!
