Earthdance Puna 2015
#1
So according to my friend in Leilani who was not impressed, the kiddies had a rave last night in Leilani! They decided to park all up and down leilani blvd and pohoiki road so HPD had a field day writing tickets and towing cars. There were some break ins and thefts, some injuries and a lot of soaking wet people. Electronic dance music until 10am!

I didn't hear a thing so nah nah nah boo boo Mark (if you're reading this).

You would think the county could build an amphitheatre down at Isaac Hale to encourage safe musical entertainment.

the facebook posts are funny... and 2 sided Happy and Pissed ....but it sure sounded BIG and wet

"""The parking is full guys! Major unexpected overflow situation. You can park at the shire, there is a shuttle (in a limo btw) to & from event, there is also security on site to watch your vehicles! Sorry for the inconvenience all"""

"""THEFT ALERT! Car parked on Pohiki during Earthdance had music equipment stolen. The iPad, Red Samick Bass, & Vintage effect pedals in the pictures posted here where taken. Please be on the lookout in our music community. CONTACT ME if you have a lead. Bless"""

"""That parking situation was super stupid. Next time you plan an event on private property and charge everyone tickets, please make sure you think EVERYTHING through. You had nothing but children there and most of them had no vehicle to worry about the cops (who swarmed your event all night. ) also whose idea was it to shuttle? You drove people miles away from thier car, charged them to shuttle back, then your stupid shuttle broke down. How the hell were all those people supposed to get back to thier cars? Simply stupid. Shoots."""

"""I'm gonna say this only once because I need to get it off my chest. I never worked with Kahiwi before and never met him until last night. When he approached me to play this event because he felt like the other event was not treating the performers correct, I was all about supporting that. He had an honest vibe and was putting it together all for a $10 party.

What I experienced last night was way beyond that. Weather and things out of control aside, this turned into the biggest event like this I have seen on big island. He went above and beyond to bring in fire dancers, vendors, light shows, extra sound, extra staff, food and smoothie places, cinder for the dance-floor, yoga instructors, hookah, massage etc.. All for a $10 party.

One thing about being a DJ, is, and this is why I was so into supporting a good promoter is, that promoters will try to cheat you out of pay or pay you a low amount or you have to chase them down during the party to get paid. Let me say, like a true professional, Kahiwi came on stage to meet me 30 seconds after my set, pay me in cash and thank me for the job. Promoters, take note, that's how you do....all for a $10 party.

And for the naysayers whining about having to pay $5 for a ride, IN A LIMOUSINE, I'm really glad you didn't make it in to ruin the vibes. We had hundreds and hundreds of people having a great time, dozens of people dancing in the pouring rain, smiling faces, and positive vibes.
#128077;And all for a $10 party.
Thanks again and SO much love to Kahiwi and everyone else who helped, danced, participated, weed whacked, vended, DJ'd, performed, or just brought your amazing love and vibes"""

"""After walking in pitch dark with a stroller all the way into the party, I stood off to the side and was listening to music for about five minutes until some asshole threw a hula hoop at my 1 year olds face. In rage I left the party and got to my car and Because the parking wasn't being directed clearly we got a ticket from the cops. This earth dance was really unorganized and the people who were throwing it were VERY rude. Sucks we had to get our money back and couldn't enjoy a good time. Maybe next year?"""

"""The festival was the best $10 I've ever spent. Victoria Broussard and I had an amazing time at our first Big Island event. The promoters told everyone to be there early or else there won't be camping. We were late but ended the night camping by the beach. What a magical night full of dancing and meeting new people. Thank you to the awesome cafe with the massive plates of fresh veggies and pork. Like I said best $10 I've ever spent. Can't believe people are complaining about the price."""

Looks like it was just outside Leilani Estates. According to the Facebook page that bananahead posted it was located at
13-694 Hinalo St

Anyone remember Unit-E club that popped up in the Hilo Industrial area ...early 90's. Definitely had the tunes covered with some hefty rows of vinyl - an interesting selection of the latest in the genre at the time, straight from the UK in large part.

Yeah, sorry about that - a British Invasion no-one deserved.

I could imagine it probably wouldn't have been your cup of tea ...no New-Wave pop from the 80's featured at the ol' Unit-E.

Support any and every attempt to expand the cultural footprint of Puna! Not sure all the cops were necessary but Puna cops are cool so no worry.

I see the County got their cut by way of parking tickets and towings.

Aloha, lavalava, good to see you back. Yes, they did (County) apparently, but the amount of calls to the "event" cost more than they made. Especially looking for the thieves (not just cars, but empty houses in the area) running amok. Too bad.

Geeze, some of us remember Woodstock and the whole era. Now, Puna seems to be hosting "the resurrection". (ie. Rainbow peeps, Earthdance, etc.)

Power to the people! Oh, sorry, working on testimony for PUC hearing re: NextEra/HEI deal. GO Co-Op!!! Co-Op even sounds "Earthdance"- ish. [Big Grin]

Have a good night all. Good to see you back, lavalava. Missed your wit.

It's a long time ago now, but went to the Glastonbury Festival in the late 80s. I forget the exact year, but went because the Psychedelic Furs were playing there that year. They were my favourite band at that time.

They finally appeared on stage dressed up like Duran Duran.

I went home.
