Amazon to charge tax on purchases made in Hawaii
#11
The third party venders haven't been reliable to us. 2 separate orders never made it it destination. One item we ordered Oct. 28, 2016 just came yesterday. Frustrating when Amazon won't ship what we need.
They wouldn't ship a Recumbant bike so we bought it from Sears. It's broken down 3 times in 8 months, and had 3 motors replaced. Turns out it has to break down 4 times before they will replace it on warranty. (Will never trust you again Sears)
Too bad for us because it was a lot cheaper on Amazon.

So with all this "free bonus money" we don't need to raise taxes? Awesome!

Chooo Chooo! Is a train now called "Vital" services?

"Too bad for us because it was a lot cheaper on Amazon."

It will still be cheaper even with the 4.25% extra. Sadly, a lot of things that can be had online aren't even available on the island.

I figured this was going to happen, too much lost revenue, with the big box stores having trouble keeping the doors open... A lot of people are buying stuff online.

"Amazon will now collect sales tax in all 46 states that have a sales tax."

Amazon's strategy is to lobby congress for a bill that imposes that all internet commerce, everywhere, be required to collect sales tax and remit it to all the states and municipalities wherever the buyers are located. This would effectively eliminate all the internet "mom and pop" shops that don't have the means to setup 46+ sales tax merchant accounts and keep track of the auditing and monthly, quarterly, and yearly filings and remittances. Jeff Bezos (the owner of Amazon) isn't happy destroying all the brick-and-mortar stores, he wants to eliminate as much of the online competition as possible to. The primary reason he bought the Washington Post in 2013 was to influence public opinion against describing amazon as a monopoly.
