Health & Fitness Talk & Walk
#1
I (Wayne "Big Dog" Joseph) will be doing a free Health & Fitness talk and walk on Saturday, May 17, starting at 9 a.m. at the Pahoa Community Center.
Following the 15 minute talk story session I will lead a 2-mile fitness walk through Pahoa town.
I am running for County Council, District 5, and would like to recommend that walkers bring loose fitting clothing, comfortable walking shoes and their throughts about how county government can best serve Puna.
If you'd like to learn more about my vision for Puna go to www.waynejoseph.com or call me at 966-9407. Looking forward to seeing you on the 17th of May. Aloha, Wayne

Wish I could join you Wayne. I have to attend family issues in Sacramento that weekend.

I like the idea of walk and talk......

For those who are not familiar Wayne recently stepped down as chairman of the County Ethics Commision to run for council. I will encourage everyone to feel entitled to discuss local elective issues on Punaweb. This is an election year folks.

Mahalo,
Assume the best and ask questions.

Welcome to Punaweb "Bigdog".

Will these walks be an ongoing thing or is this just a one time thing?

Will you be wearing a campaign shirt?

Sounds like a great way to get to meet you.

I read your website and you seem pretty genuine and I'd like to know more about ALL future candidates.

Would you be willing to answer questions regarding your views and stances on different issues involving Puna residents on Punaweb? (when you have time of course)

Many Punaweb members are not in Puna now, however, they still have concerns about Punas future because they are planning on moving here.

I have marked this on my calendar and since I will be on the Island that weekend... I may be joining you.... Since I need to get in shape again anyhow. [Sad]

Yes, I'd like to do these health and fitness talks in all the sub-division of Puna. It would be a great way to get out and meet the people and also get in some good exercise.

I was thinking of wearing my campaign T-shirt during these talk and walk sessions.

Thank you for both the email and quick reply bigdog...

I'm liking you already.

If we could get more responsiveness from current representatives it would be great.[Big Grin]

Big Dog,

Don't know if I'll be able to make the walk, however, I do pose the following:

Had you been a current council person, how would you have voted on the following two bills?

1. Bill 269, a $282,000 grant from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration for marijuana eradication

and

2. Bill 280, a $159,000 grant from the state Office of the Attorney General

In 2007, police spent $370,000 in grant money on eradication efforts, according to a report police prepared for the county council. Private helicopter rental, at $126,136, was the biggest expense. The police flew for 171.8 hours, paying $700 to $794 an hour.

Aloha Damon,
You ask two very good questions and let me answer them by first saying that I believe in good health and fitness through exercise, a health diet and a positive mental attitude.
I run between 45 and 50 miles per week and will have a cup of coffee with breakfast and another cup with lunch. For dinner I enjoy a glass of red wine.
I quit smoking more than 25 years ago and watch what goes into my system. I don't even like to take asprin!
With that being said I will now answer your questions. Had I been on the council I would of probably voted NO on both bills. I believe that the County's focus should be on preventing the use and distrubution of such drugs as cyrstal meth, which negatively affects our society.
And let me take this one step further, I would of probably have voted NO on the smoking ban at County beach parks. We should not be regulating our norms onto others and infringing on individual rights because smokers happen to be in the minority. I believe smoking is a bad habit, but I would not want to impose my beliefs onto other citizens.
We all have the right to choose in a democratic society and government should lead through example, not through forceful infringement on individual rights.
I believe that County government should serve the people and focus on such basic needs as providing a safe environment for everyone to live.
I can go on and on on these issues, but if you or anyone else are interested in hearing more about what I beleive in I would suggest coming to one of the many events that I will be hosting in Puna or call me at home or email me.
You might not like my answers, but they are honest and represent who I am.
Aloha, Big Dog

I appreciate your response.

I would much rather elect someone who tells it the way they feel it and possibly piss some constituents off, then have a representative who is all fluff and just trying to appease their constituents.
